Frequently Asked Questions

How often should my pet be vaccinated? +

Puppies and kittens need a series of vaccines starting at 6-8 weeks old. Your veterinarian will create a vaccination schedule tailored to your pet's age, lifestyle, and risk factors.

Do I need an appointment for vaccines? +

Yes, appointments are required for all services to ensure minimal wait times and proper preparation for your pet's visit. You can schedule by calling 706-987-8380 or emailing vetclinic@pawshumane.org.

Can I purchase preventive medications without an exam? +

Flea and tick medications can be purchased for pets we've seen within the last year. However, heartworm preventives require a negative heartworm test to ensure your pet's safety, as giving these medications to a heartworm-positive pet can cause serious complications.

What vaccines does my indoor cat need? +

Even indoor cats should receive core vaccines including rabies and FvRCP (feline distemper). These protect against highly contagious diseases that can be brought inside on clothing or shoes. FeLV vaccination may be recommended based on your cat's risk of exposure to other cats.

Do you offer other veterinary services? +

Yes, we offer additional services beyond those listed. For information about specific services or to discuss your pet's needs, please contact us at vetclinic@pawshumane.org or call 706-987-8380.
