The Ready, Vet, Go! program provides aspiring veterinary professionals with hands-on clinical experience in a high-volume spay/neuter facility. This one-day intensive mentorship connects students with experienced veterinarians.

Participants shadow veterinarians through surgical procedures and wellness appointments, gaining practical insights into veterinary medicine. The program runs every Tuesday from 9 AM to 4 PM.

Daily Schedule & Activities

Experience a typical day at Paws Humane Veterinary Clinic, where high-volume meets high-quality care.

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Morning Surgical Block

Observe pre-operative examinations, anesthesia protocols, and surgical procedures. Witness spay/neuter surgeries and learn about surgical techniques, sterile procedures, and patient monitoring.

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch & Discussion

Break for lunch (provided) and participate in Q&A session with veterinary staff. Discuss career paths, educational requirements, and veterinary school preparation.

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Afternoon Clinical Experience

Shadow wellness appointments, vaccinations, and medical examinations. Learn about client communication, medical record-keeping, and preventive care protocols.

What should I wear to the program? +
Professional attire is required. Wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a professional top. Scrubs are not necessary as you'll receive a Paws Humane t-shirt. Avoid jewelry and ensure long hair is tied back.
Can I participate if I'm under 18? +
Yes, participants aged 14-17 are welcome with parental consent. A parent or guardian must sign the consent form and liability waiver. Minors must demonstrate maturity and ability to follow clinical protocols.
Will I be able to handle animals during the program? +
This is an observation-based program. For safety and liability reasons, participants observe procedures but do not handle animals or medical equipment. You'll have close-up views of all procedures and can ask questions throughout the day.
How do I receive my volunteer hours? +
Upon completion of the program, you'll receive a certificate documenting six volunteer hours. This certificate can be used for school requirements, college applications, or veterinary school prerequisites. Hours are logged in our volunteer database.
